About

I am a Mixed media artist including assemblage, altered art, ,mixed media techniques and textures, art journaling, and scrapbooking. By profession, I am a Microbiologist working for several medical centers in the SF Bay area for about 35 yrs.

About 30 yrs.ago I started as a scrapbooker and quilter- making things for friends and co-workers. Soon after, I and my best friend started a small crafting business making baby porcelain dolls, gift baskets, etc. selling only at Art and Wine festivals. We closed the business when we both had children. I continued to make diaper cakes and wedding towel cakes for co-workers. in the meantime, after the passing of my father, I was inspired to start creating a variety of shadow boxes- some in memory of co-workers loved ones, others as retirement gifts, wedding gifts, baby gifts, etc. Lately I have been creating "shadow boxes" about daily events-ie.be it a simple visit to a tea shop in Berkeley, Starbucks, or my daughter,Lena, leaving to college.

I was very blessed to be published in a magazine called Stampington-Legacy. It was a scrapbook layout I did for a co-worker in memory of her daughter Shannon who tragically passed in a car accident at the age of 16..Presently, I am working on a mixed media art piece consisting of 3 large canvas panels-in memory of my father.

Art is foe everyone, I learned by experimenting with mediums and techniques. So to inspire others, I share my work by teaching. Once or twice a month after work, I teach mixed media art classes to my co-workers. I have been very fortunate that the company I work for allows me the space to do so. Although I have never had any formal training in art, I am constantly inspired by my family, friends, and co-workers.   Thank you- Susan Yee.
